The Alice City Council will take up several items involving the city’s fire department, property development and land use during its upcoming meeting, including a proposed change to the hiring process for firefighters and two requests to rezone property in Alice.
One of the more significant items on the agenda is a proposed Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Alice and the Alice Professional Firefighters Association Local 4102. The agreement would make changes to the hiring process contained in the city’s collective bargaining agreement with the firefighters association.
The council will also consider two proposed final plats as part of its individual consideration agenda.
The first, the Jake Johnson Addition, involves a 0.69-acre tract at 1200 N. Stadium. The property is being platted from a larger tract that was conveyed to Cornerstone Baptist Church in 1991 and is also identified as part of Lot 4, Block 5 of the Adams-Presnall Farm Tracts.
The second is Northwest Estate Unit 5, a proposed plat covering approximately 8.739 acres out of Farm Block 88. The council will consider whether to accept and approve the final plat.
Two separate zoning requests will also come before the council through public hearings.
The first involves approximately 4.95 acres in the Herrera Addition, specifically Lots 33 and 34 of Block 2. The property is currently designated R-1 Residential One-Family District, and the proposed ordinance would change the zoning to R-6 Mobile Home Subdivision District.
The second rezoning request concerns a 1.023-acre tract at 1626 S. Falfurrias (S281) Highway, identified as Lot 2 of the unrecorded Gonzalez Subdivision. The property is currently zoned I-C and would be changed to R-1 Residential One-Family District under the proposed ordinance.
Both zoning matters will include public hearings before the council considers whether to adopt the proposed ordinances.
These items are part of the council’s individual consideration agenda and will be discussed during its upcoming meeting.
